Polaroid Emulsion Transfer Project
Shoot it, peel it, wet it, stick it, press it, peel it.
I’ve been working on a Emulsion Transfer project this past month using a bunch of photos I shot of the Vans BMX team. The good people at Daylab got me going with a Polaroid copier and the rest is history. These images will be making their way to my marketing materials for this fall and as soon as Interbike next month. Tracking down the Polaroid 669 film has been tricky after I ran out of the supply that Daylab kindly gave me from their private stock, and the Fuji 100C has been a recent substitute, but nothing looks like the 669.
New Sandisk 32GBs Have Arrived!
I just had a package from Sandisk arrive at my front door with 5, 32GB Extreme Memory Cards inside.
Zooom Productions Agency in Fuschl, Austria was able to get it’s photographers some of these very high capacity memory cards so we can keep shooting!
Much thanks to Sandisk for the 16GBs, the 32GBs and the Firewire 800 card readers to help ingest the shots just as fast I I take them.
Spider Awards Deadline
Black and White Photography Contest
I just finished uploading my final images for the Black and White Spider Awards International Photography Contest.
The images from last year were pretty amazing, so hopefully my sport images will get some play this year.
The deadline is creeping up so if you are going to submit images do it before July 16, 2010.
In other news, I just finished a huge video project for Haro bikes and have Chad Shakelford authoring the whole DVD out in Cincy while I get prepped for the next four weeks of travel to Chicago, Pennsylvania, LA, Huntington Beach and Portland. Mileage Plus here I come.
Lights, camera, rail
LED light trails
While shooting a Vans Roadtrip this spring, I saw a kid in Tempe running around with these LED lights on his fingers and got the idea to put them on a BMX bike for a bulb exposure experiment.
I finally found a place that sold them up in Big Bear while I was getting a prop carved for another shoot and despite being over-priced and under-engineered, I had to clean out their inventory.
I called up Kink/Shadow/Lotek rider Albert Mercado and told him my idea and he was ready with a location the next night at midnight.
Any easy 4-stair rail was a prefect place to test out the power of these little lights. Half the stock failed within 5 mins, but we were able to get enough power out of them to expose a nice trail through Albert’s run-up, pop the flashes on the rail and a nice trail through his landing.
Canon 5D MK2 on Manfrotto tripod, 15mm fisheye lens, ISO 320, f/8, 3-second bulb exposure. 1 Q-Flash, 2 x Vivitar 285s.
Next week I’ll be teaching this shot at Woodward East Digital Media Camp, so if you are signed up, bring a tripod!
PS- Thanks to Defgrip for the feature interview. It turned out great guys!
Red Bull Stomping Grounds
I’m out in Chicago shooting the Red Bull Stomping Grounds event for the weekend.
Here is a cool portrait of Kye Forte I was able to grab during practice. Kye came over from England and brought a whole film crew with him and his brother Leo to document the whole trail contest experience.
I’m loving the Gino’s East deep dish pizza, but if I could get out to El Mex in Lisle it would really complete my trip.
