Derek pinned it on my new site and it looks amazing, here is an interview with the man who made all these whirling dervishes work in harmony.

So Derek Balmer and I have known each other for a while now. He lives outside of Denver, Colorado in a log cabin and I live in a tiki hut in San Diego.  Here is an interview with Derek about building my site for the 3rd time and his objection to my opinions about brush script typography.

What is the “Holdfast” and why are you holding it?
1. It’s Hold Fast Creative (3 words there Kozzy)
2. Hold Fast Creative is the one man creative army of yours truly. I design all sorts of things for print, web and mobile.
3. I’m holding it because… hmm. Not really sure on that one.

Brief professional background:
Brief version - I was the Creative Director of 9 Squared (now Zed USA) for 4 years before leaving to start Kick Start Mobile in June of 07. Kick Start Mobile is a mobile software development boutique, which consumes most my days and then my nights are taken up by freelance design projects through Hold Fast Creative and also trying to keep up with designing apparel and web stuff for Relentless Clothing. That’s the brief version.

Past client site (prince):
Prince, ha! I forgot about that one. Yeah I designed the ringtone section of the Prince fan club website a few years ago. I’ve worked with a lot of odd artist related sites in the past while I was at 9 Squared. I also made one for Nas and Hinder, just to give you an idea of the range of artists.

Brief moto backgroud:
I raced MX locally in Colorado for about 10 years. I started out in the Mini’s and pretty much stopped when I started college. I never made it past the 250 Intermediate class, but motocross has always been one of my biggest passions in life. I still ride every now and then when I find time, and I try to hit at least one race every year. You know, just so I can remind myself how much I suck.

When did we meet?
We met in Illinois back in 2003. Brandon Bartz had you pick me up from the airport for a Relentless party. 

Why did you want to redo my site for the 3rd time?
Besides being young and needing the money!? To be honest it’s just a lot of fun man. I love designing/coding websites and it’s great to be able to work on fun challenging projects with great content.

Why does the iPhone suck?
... because it killed my father with all of its iHype.

What part of justinkosman.com are you most psyched on?
I was most psyched on the brush script typography. You will notice that the live site doesn’t have brush script typography though. Weird. What happened Justin?

Biggest prediction for mobile media in the next 5 years?
5 years is such a long time for mobile. Really anything is possible in 5 years, but one thing is for sure, mobile media will continue to be be a significant revenue generator for everyone involved.
