The calm before the storm
More like eye the the storm. I’ve been busy!
It is the middle of July and wow has this summer skated by faster than ever.
A couple weeks ago I had to pull a double banger and go straight from the X-Fighters event in Ft. Worth, TX up north to Madison, Wisc for a shoot with Cam white that had over twenty separate video components. Final Cut got a work out on that one for sure and so did my server. Fourth of July weekend was pretty laid back with a session at Enarson’s ramps. Little did I know that he has moved into his own place and so have several other guys. There is only a mini ramp in his garage but I expect he will be coming over to his old address to ride as much as possible. I was able to hook up with Jason Richardson (who plays it family man these days) and Greg Romero (who plays it Olympic Trainer these days) and go surfing in Encinitas a couple times over the weekend. I forgot how big a 3-4 forecast really is when the nose of your 9Fish drags on a drop-in. It was great, despite the crowded waters everyone got a little taste when the right set came in ... and when the wrong set came in we all were blasted back to the shore anyways. Lately I’ve been filming here and there with Gary Young for his Vans Dunbar shoe commercial and trying to do some more unique locations and accommodate his recent knee surgeries. I have to make it out with Cory Nastazio one more time to get some riding footage for his next commercial as well. Rarely do I have the the problem of needing filler clips, but it seems like the few shots I have of Cory are all bangers so it is a good problem to have. Speaking of footage, a week from today I am headed out to Colorado to shoot with Josh Harrington and Rob Darden for ten days. The last ten day trip I went on I spent 8 of those days with a broken hand, so this one should be a cake walk. I say that now. But while I am in Denver, I’m looking forward to seeing Derek Balmer of The Holdfast Creative. Derek is the graphic artist and web designer who whipped this website into shape and I’m happy that we are working on another small project together dropping around X Games. After we rock out in The Rockies I will be shooting the Nike 6.0 park contest in Huntington Beach and then it’s up to Los Angeles for a week of behind the scenes video production and editing with the Espn crew.
I’m excited to be this busy with everything that is folding all around us it seems like independent creatives are being called upon to act immediately and often to execute specific shoots and creative projects.
And last but not least, Levi’s BMX has a new ad featuring Dakota Roche that we shot in Hawaii when him and Morgan Wade session the fence gap.
